Who we are
Originally founded in 1856, Stoneygate School is an independent day school for children aged 4 to 16. Our beautiful older buildings stand alongside modern science labs and sports facilities; we value books and technology; we respect the unique culture of Stoneygate, cultivated since the nineteenth century, yet seek to prepare our pupils for the modern world. Within our glorious surroundings, we possess a deep and genuine commitment to provide a first-class education, one through which our pupils develop a passion for learning, a capacity for independent thought and an appreciation of academic rigor.
Yet there is much more to Stoneygate than our academic curriculum. Stoneygate School is unique. It is a small school that has retained its important heritage and ethos and yet it is now part of the large Leicester Grammar School Trust. Small class sizes mean close attention to suit the needs of all pupils and space to learn and grow on our forty-acre campus. Our close-knit community is one in which everyone is known as an individual, yet one where everyone plays their part to enable us to field successful sports teams, play together in orchestras and stage drama productions.
Scholarships and bursaries
We want to recognise talent. Scholarships and bursaries are available to pupils entering Years 7, 8 and 9. Specifically, Scholarships are available to pupils outstanding in one or more disciplines: Art, Music, Sport, and Academia. We also provide a Scholarship for an All-rounder.
Co-curriculum
Pupils here are busy. We have a long day- pupils tend to leave at 5.30pm and it is filled with learning, discovery and fun. Pupils are never bored here. Pupils are encouraged to join one of our wide range of co-curricular activities. After school clubs range from tap dancing to Gothic literature; from Tae Kwon Do to gardening.
Senior School pupils are prepared for the wider world beyond their GCSEs. Year 8 and 9 pupils regularly take part in debates on current issues. Open to our Year 10 and 11 pupils, the Stoneygate Training and Enrichment Programme (STEP) is based on three core areas: Enterprise, Leadership and World Perspectives.
Caring, Creative, Curious, Committed
We want pupils to be inquisitive and not to rely solely on technology for the answer to everything. We want our pupils to ask ‘why?’ Millions saw the apple fall, but only Newton asked ‘why?’ We want our pupils to be bold- to learn from experiments, from drama, from play… from their own mistakes.
From a young age pupils are taught by specialist teachers with a passion for their subject. Our School ethos is based around the Four C’s; staff and pupils are caring, creative, curious and committed.
We are fortunate to teach and learn in such beautiful settings, but this does not make a great school. Committed staff and eager pupils do-something we have in abundance.
