Founding Ethos
St David's College was founded in 1965 with a vision that was ahead of its time. That vision was to create a school that nurtured every aspect of a pupil's academic, physical and social/emotional/spiritual wellbeing. This very vision still informs our purpose and mission as a school. Today it is known as a Three Peak education and is designed to prepare our pupils to leave school with unique personalities and individual strengths, and a deep resilience ready for life beyond school.
Learning at St David's
Our small class sizes and highly trained staff enable us to create a learning environment in which teaching can be tailored to the learning style of each individual. Upon entry to St David's each pupil is assessed so that we can develop a learning plan to help that individual achieve their academic potential. We are proud to have a highly regarded specialist provision to support pupils with Dyslexia and additional learning barriers. This provision is co-ordinated through our Cadogan Learning Support Centre, a department that is staffed by around 20 dedicated learning support teachers, teaching small group and one to one lessons. St David's College is a mainstream academic school and our approach to teaching can also nurture pupils who are more able and talented and stretch those who are academically strong. Class sizes are small throughout the school, averaging around 8 pupils per class, with no class more than about 12 pupils as a maximum.
On offer is a good range of academic and vocational qualifications; again, we want to offer an education that each pupil can tailor to their learning style and of course their aspirations. In many cases pupils achieve much higher grades than those predicted for them before joining St David's. For our latest examination results please contact us.
Extra Curricular
An important aspect of a St David's College Three Peak Education is the experiences our pupils have outside of the classroom. Our national award winning Extra-Curricular programme is delivered through a diverse activity programme and our industry leading Outdoor Education department. Around five expeditions leave site each week as part of a true outdoor education, with opportunities for every pupil to experience. From sailing, kayaking and climbing to caving and much, much more. Opportunities abound every week for pupils to expand their leadership and teamwork skills and further strengthen their confidence. The many international expeditions our pupils go on are documented online and worth discovering. This year alone saw ten of our pupils awarded their Gold Duke of Edinburgh's award at Buckingham Palace, illustrating how adventurous our pupils are.
