The first building you come to when coming up our drive is a Pugin designed manor house that many of our pupils fondly call the Harry Potter building with its wonderful wooden staircase winding its way around our main foyer after walking across the moat bridge. It is the beginning of what we hope is a magical experience for every pupil and visitor to the school!

At Stafford Grammar School our focus is on ensuring our pupils come away every day with a smile on their faces. We pride ourselves on our excellent academic results but we take just as much pride from helping our pupils discover hitherto unknown talents and instilling in them an insatiable curiosity to explore and challenge themselves. Fulfilling potential is our driving ambition and there are opportunities for every pupil to pursue a plethora of subjects and activities in their journey of personal discovery, whether that is in the forest school for our Prep pupils or in the Labs or theatre or on the sports fields for our budding scientists, thespians and athletes.

The performing arts ensure the school is high on endorphins and the annual school musical showcases exceptional talent with a number of our pupils having subsequently pursued careers on the stage and in the media. With 18 different music groups meeting for rehearsals every week and nearly 40 concerts every year, the opportunities for our musicians to perform at the highest level and in some of the country's best performance venues, gives them experiences they will cherish for the rest of their lives.

Classes are small, typically 13-20 pupils in a class up until their A Levels where the class size will generally drop below 10 in a class. This ensure individualised support for pupils of all levels. Our academic results at GCSE and A Level are excellent and the majority of our pupils achieve their first choice of University, including Oxbridge and Russell Group institutions, with good numbers going to study Medicine. In 2023/24 the school achieved 48.6% A*/A at A Level (national average 27.8%) and 53% 9-7 at GCSE (national average 21.8%).

In 2024 the school has enjoyed significant national recognition; shortlisted for Co-educational Independent School of the Year (Independent School of the Year Awards), Muddy Stilettos Highly Commended for Dynamic Performing Arts in their Best Schools Awards, Double Platinum Award winners in the National Concert Band Festival Finds, winner and runner-up in the ISA Young Musician of the Year, winner of Best Actress in a Musical in the National School Theatre Awards, and finalist in the ISA Awards for Best Senior School.

Our House system ensures that every pupil is provided with excellent pastoral support from their Form Tutor and Housemaster/mistress and every pupil is able to participate in the abundant range of competitions so that they genuinely enjoy the sense of shared achievement and collaboration.

Despite being a smaller school of roughly 380 pupils, we have enjoyed some wonderful successes in sport with several pupils achieving county, regional and national honours. Beyond the typical sports we have a very successful ski team and several pupils representing the school in horse riding. We believe wholeheartedly in the notion of 'a healthy body, healthy mind' and participation in sport for all our pupils is significant to the success they enjoy elsewhere in their life at school.

Pupils' mental health is something we take very seriously and we are due to open our new Well-being Centre imminently where the pupils will know they can for support when it is needed or where they can escape from the hustle and bustle if in need of a quiet space.

We have 7 core values - Excellence, Respect, Compassion, Responsibility, Integrity, Creativity and perhaps most importantly, Courage. Winston Churchill said 'Courage is rightly esteemed the first of human qualities, because, as has been said, it is the quality which guarantees all others.' The world is full of challenges to overcome but for those with courage, they are already half way to meeting them head on and emerging victorious and that is what we want for our pupils.
