The Froebelian School, Horsforth is one of the North’s leading independent preparatory schools.
A Froebelian education can start at the age of two in our Nursery Class or at three years of age in our Lower Kindergarten, which continues to Form IV (Year 6). School life is varied, exciting, and fast-paced. There is never a dull moment as we embody our ethos of 'Giving a Flying Start to the Citizens of Tomorrow'.
Since The Froebelian School’s foundation in 1913, influenced by German educationalist, Friedrich Froebel, it has become one of the North's leading educational success stories. Our academic results are outstanding, but the school offers much more than an excellent academic education: we firmly believe in laying solid foundations for a lifelong love of learning, to gain knowledge and skills and develop personal attributes, relevant to each and every child’s future in a safe and supportive environment.
The sense of community at Froebelian is second to none and we value our place in our local community, too. The breadth of opportunity on offer means that there is something for everyone to discover and in which to thrive. Our pupils are confident and our talented and passionate staff guide and support each individual on their personal journeys of discovery.
Children are at the heart of everything we do and we are passionate that they enjoy a positive experience, in a warm, friendly, caring, structured and secure environment where they are known as individuals and supported at each step of their journey through the school.
"We chose Froebelian because it feels like a family. The nurturing environment that Froebelian provides brings out the best in our children." - A Parent
We are clear that a pupil's education should be a broad and varied experience and our pupils are encouraged to step outside their comfort zone and take risks in a safe and supportive environment, discovering new talents and interests which provide much happiness at school and, critically, develop their self-confidence, problem solving abilities and interpersonal skills.
Sport, Drama and Music all play important roles in school life. Games receives a more generous time allocation than in many schools and our pupils represent the school in fixtures in a wide range of sports. There are a multitude of opportunities to be involved in musical ensembles, choirs, groups and performances. House Drama competitions give large numbers of pupils the opportunity to tread the boards, and our end of year productions are of exceptional quality, playing to large audiences.
We have a very active Outdoor Education Curriculum which provides residential experiences across the UK and all pupils in Year 6 undertake our very own version of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme - The FIVe (sic) Steps Challenge - through which they acquire self-reliance, resilience and teamwork whilst learning the importance of service to the community.
Welcoming children from two years from September 2024 has seen further investment in our Early Years provision with bespoke-designed classrooms and continuous access to an exceptional outdoor space including our hidden, secret forest and treehouse. With 51 weeks a year provision for all children and funding available for our youngest children, we aim to balance both academic and co-curricular spheres of school life for all pupils.
The latest Independent Schools Inspectorate report judged The Froebelian School as 'excellent' for the quality of the pupils' achievements and the quality of pupils' personal development - this is the highest judgement available. "The pupils' attitudes to learning are exceptional." - ISI Inspectorate
Our children adore their school and are justly proud of all they do. They love learning and there is a true sense of fun. We would love you to experience the warmth of our Froebelian Family for yourselves - please do come and meet us! Visit www.froebelian.com to find out more.
